(on the bugginess front, I broke the tutorial several times when I was going through all of them, but didn't notice anything obviously broken when I was playing- although I'm not familiar enough with the game to be sure I'd catch a bug, either) (saying this with only 4-5 hours of experience with it so far, so take with a grain of salt) I ended up pre-ordering it, because I could really go for some giant historical strategy gaming right now. Crusader Kings 2 feels a little better with regards to the first and third, and a lot better with regards to the second of these complaints. (coming from a background of HoI2 and EU3, with assorted expansions) The pacing, the selection of decisions points for players, and the interface and presentation are all let down the epic scope and detail that serve them. I love the grand strategy conceit of Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron, but find they fail as games. I just tried out the demo for this last night. However, if after hitting the "play" button you IMMEDIATELY click on any province on the map, you will instead play as the ruler of that province.

You play as a medeival dynasty - sure you want to build up your kingdom, but really you want to make sure that it's your family that succeeds and thrives. The original Crusader Kings from Swedish developer Paradox came out in 2004 or 2005, and despite being a deeply flawed game in many respects, it was still a heck of a lot of fun, and is one that I have contineud to come back to for years.
